Review of gpsinsight.com

Wednesday 31 December 2008 @ 1:51 pm

GPS InsightGPS Insight is a website about GPS navigation devices and company’s tracking technology and services. The company offers new service that helps companies to manage corporate vehicles usage. The company’s flagship product GPS Insight allows companies to log driver’s activity and generates graphical description of the driver’s activity. The application is perfect for shipping and logistics companies as well as limousine and taxi operators.

The company offers a fairly extensive range of GPS Insight vehicle tracking system and satellite navigation services that are provided with proprietary hardware. In general, satellite navigation devices use global positioning satellites to calculate present location of an object. That information is displayed on an electronic map on the screen. Customers have access to a variety of reports including activity detail report, fuel consumption and speed violations data as well as vehicle performance information. Additional reports include troubleshooting codes, landmark activity monitor, odd hours and strange activity tracker, geofence violation data and so on. Company’s product line includes transmitters, receivers, antennas and tracking devices of various sizes and for different purposes.

As satellite navigation technology matures and devices become more affordable, more people are starting to look for its practical utilization. The most common use of satellite navigation is in GPS systems for guiding drivers to their desired destination. GPS Insight offers several satellite navigation devices for businesses and general public including TomTom 910, its own piece of routing hardware that works with company’s other devices. Company’s product line includes various adapters, an all-in-one car GPS navigation system as well as transmitting units, receivers and other accessories of various sizes that were designed for different purposes.

In the last several years GPS Tracking is becoming more and more widespread. GPS Tracking System is a complete tracking system suitable for various usages. As GPS technology matures and devices become more affordable, more companies and regular people are starting to use them every day. The most potentially popular usage of GPS systems is installing it in motor vehicles for getting real-time directions and vehicle tracking. It’s not exclusively for big companies anymore - parents could use them for tracking teen drivers or small businesses might want to know the exact location of a company car or truck in real time.

Overall, GPS tracking devices offer quite powerful yet controversial capabilities to their owners. Devices like this intrude on other people privacy and from honest people point of view are pure evil. But use of GPS tracking devices is somewhat justified for some purposes, mostly business-related. However, I think that the first major lawsuit against the use of GPS tracking devices would destroy the whole industry. Use of GPS tracking for private consumption is much more controversial. But it is not an issue right know because those devices are a bit expensive and most households would not buy them. However, in the future GPS tracking devices will become more popular and eventually general public will define proper use of this technology.

Company’s roots are in Midwest. The site is operated from Arizona. It has been online for three years old. The company offers telephone support and has extensive FAQ section on the website. The company has a wiki and keeps a Blog for GPS vehicle tracking detailing products development and functionality. The main topics on GPS Insight support wiki for customers are discussions about GPS and navigation equipment, practical implementation of GPS technology as well as sharing user experiences and exchange ideas about satellite navigation. GPS Insight provides a thirty days money back guarantee, and offers free trials for qualified companies.

Overall, it is an interesting resource and anyone who is looking for commercial satellite navigation and tracking system should visit this website and evaluate GPS Insight.

Disadvantages of Paypal payment system

Tuesday 27 November 2007 @ 4:40 pm

PayPal is a the most popular online payment system today. However, even this service has its own share of serious drawbacks. It’s really unfortunate that PayPal does not allow free payments from credit cards to people who don’t have paid premium accounts. It makes people to upgrade to a new level even though it is only for accepting just one payment.
Another time I accepted payment from a person from Canada. The payment was in Canadian dollars and PayPal “conveniently” set unfavorable exchange rate. Common, that’s ridiculous! PayPal also does not honor bank accounts from some countries even though buyer trust seller. I’m sure this problem occurs quite regularly on eBay. It’s understandable that online you can never be sure but still Paypal fraud protection procedures are a bit too excessive.

Review of USAEyes.org

Tuesday 13 November 2007 @ 11:09 am

Laser Eye Surgery has become very popular in the last several years. Millions of short-sighted Americans were able to correct their vision. USAeyes.org is a website that educates potential customers on laser correction procedure and a recomendation service for Lasik eye surgery procedure. The website is a collection of articles about laser surgery, possible side effects of the procedure, doctor and clinic recommendation service. USAeyes.org organizes participating vision correction offices by state and allows visitors to browse listings and pick doctor that suits them best.
The website has a sister site at complicatedeyes.org and has been online for some time. There are not so many listings as of now, but the amount of information is quite sufficient to help interested people to find eye treatment close to home or work.
Personally, I was thinking about Lasik operation for some time. The main concern is that nobody really knows how the operation affects eye sight several decades after the operation. Unfortunately, the site doesn’t address this issue. Even though there are many testimonials from happy customers, the site failed to persuade me to have the operation soon. human eye is a very complex mechanism and I don’t feel comfortable having an operation just yet.

Review of BestPricedFurniture.com

Saturday 13 October 2007 @ 11:56 am

Buying furniture online has become popular over the last several years. People no longer feel that they need to literally touch a piece of furniture before purchasing it. As a matter of fact, shopping for furniture online is easier and takes considerably less time than buying furniture in a brick-and-mortar store. The task becomes increasingly difficult if you want a particular brand of furniture or have a unique need.
Bestpricedfurniture.com is one of the leading online retailers of furniture. The site has impressive selection of office, home, school, medical and specialty furniture. SouthWest real estate

Thursday 11 October 2007 @ 6:10 am

I have never been to “real” SouthWest. California doesn’t count. Arizona sounds just about right. I know it’s supposed to be similar to deserts and ravines of Israel. Lots of sun, hot and dry air, not overpopulated places, wild nature, cactuses, relatively far from everything “civilized”. And it’s cheap, too. You can get a mansion in a prestigious neighborhood for the price of a run-down Manhattan studio.

I browsed Scottsdale Realtors website and looked at some of their properties. Beautiful. Exotic. And relatively cheap - well, that’s a Manhattanite in me that’s talking :) But seriously, it would have been a lot of fun living there.

I wish I were somewhere in SouthWest.

Review of freeantivirusinfo.com

Monday 8 October 2007 @ 4:05 pm

freeantivirusinfo.com is a website about anti-virus scanner software and other security programs. The website promotes Symantec line of security software applications - Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton SystemWorks. Perspective buyers can learn more about each program, see feature comparison chart and choose the most appropriate version for its needs. Frequently Asked Questions section of the site covers most topics customers might be interested in and has numerous links to other anti-virus resources. The website maintains lists most of known computer viruses and recommends free Antivirus downloads for peace of mind. Judging by wide spread of viruses on the Internet, it’s difficult not to agree with this point.
On another hand, the website is very new and currently has only several content pages. Potentially freeantivirusinfo.com can represent products by other software title publishers. It is interesting to see how this website would evolve in the future.

Cisco WI-FI and VoIP technology

Tuesday 18 September 2007 @ 4:21 pm

Cisco Networks is the leading telecommunications company. Its bread and butter is routers and switches that enable Internet and voice data to be transmitted. wifi is a relatively new technology that enables mobile users to access the Internet while on the go. This particular technology has recently become widely used.
VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is another fast-growing technology for routing voice traffic over IP-based networks. In the past it was a term reserved only for computer specialists. Nowadays it’s becoming a household term because VOIP allows people to use the Internet to make phone calls instead of their usual telephone line. Currently several VOIP telephone companies offer phone service that allows customers making cheap domestic and international calls and saving a bunch of money. Sunday 12 August 2007 @ 8:54 pm

Pricepirates is a price comparison tool from a British company called Buyertools. It’s a stand-alone software application available for download at www.pricepirates.com. The program competes with a number of similar tools but has some serious advantages over competitors.

There are quite a few comparison shopping websites on the Internet. Most of them allow website visitors to compare product prices from a limited number of online retailers. Pricepirates has several rare features for this category of shopping software - tracking and managing of product search results. Users can choose between different retailers or country-specific eBay websites. Pricepirates also allows to create watchlists and categories of products, calculate total price based on shipping charges and keeps statistics of searches. Some features for shopping on eBay and Amazon Marketplace (such as bargain hunting and auction watchlists) are unique in this category of software applications.

Pricepirates is a mature program - version 3.0 is currently available for download. Buyertools also offers a bundle of Pricepirates and Buyertools Reminder to make online shopping even easier. The company is especially proud of the fact that its software does not come with spyware and free of charge. Support for Pricepirates is available by e-mail. Saturday 11 August 2007 @ 11:44 pm

Gift-suggestion websites have human editors on staff who scour the Web looking for unique and creative gift ideas. Sometimes gift suggesters use age-old gift ideas. Sometimes they come up with something totally new.
surprise.com is a website that could work as a personal assistant that recommends creative gifts from all possible stores you can find on the Internet. The website organizes gift ideas into hundreds of personality specific categories and helps gift givers be creative.
Even though all three websites are targeting the same market and have the same underlying idea, they are built differently and cater to different shopping moods. Of all three gifts.com has the best design while surprise.com has the best navigation on the site and seems to be easier to use.

Example of smart advertisement on the web

Friday 6 April 2007 @ 11:47 am

Take a look at nowwhat.com. This is a nicely-built promotional site. Everything is in Flash and for a while you do not realize that this is not a game but actually a front page for a promotional website for an insurance company. There are several clickable regions on the page that lead to sales pitch. But also the Flash animation has some hidden clickable spots with pranks. Very smart, because it mixes a game with a sales pitch and again, quality of the Flash animation is outstanding.

Magnet Commerce is an e-commerce software solution provider. The company has American presence with an office in Florida, but the main operational center is in Athens, Greece. The main product of the company is a Multilingual e-commerce solution for businesses.

Magnet Commerce offers its multilingual e-commerce software as service solution. The company stresses two main advantages of its application over ever-growing competitive offerings from all around the Web. The first and probably the most important distinction is the built-in support for multiple languages and multiple currencies. Since there are no borders on the Internet and every retailer wants to sell its products and services to anyone who is willing to pay the price, support of multiple currencies and on-the-fly price conversions into multiple currencies is essential. This gives merchants an ability to target customers in different countries and have "regional" stores even though it would still be just a single web application. The software can handle not only different languages and currencies, it is also truly localized - meaning that it adopts to the target culture and also supports local taxes, local shipping charges and tariffs, etc. It is a serious advantage for every international retailer because it makes products more competitive, presents shoppers with final correct price and gives customers an illusion of buying from a local web store.
Magnet Commerce also offers an ability to generate search engine friendly websites on the fly. The application simply adopts to the target environment and creates pages that search engines like without creating HTML mirror sites like most other e-commerce programs do. This leads to not only a better presentation but also considerably cuts maintenance time and makes synchronization and update of content on the site much easier.
Magnet Commerce embraces Microsoft technologies and develops software solutions built on top of .Net platform. The application uses Microsoft SQL database as a back-end and is built using .Net languages. Another advantage of .Net platform is that it has some serious localization tools already built-in the framework. The latest ASP.NET 2.0 technology is also using a number of newly popular features that make multilingual e-commerce software robust and easy to maintain.
The company encourages perspective users to try its software for free for full fifteen days before making the purchasing decision. Another useful advantage of this software title is the ability to setup an e-commerce store very quickly and easily. As a matter of fact, no programming experience is required. There are no hidden fees and no software application or web components to install or update because everything is controlled by means of a web browser.
Overall, Magnet Commerce is a packaged e-commerce solution that delivers enterprise applications using a secure model. The program minimizes costs and risk associated with running an online store and takes complexity out of application deployment and maintenance.

Review of crazyegg.com statistical counter

Wednesday 28 February 2007 @ 3:57 pm

Crazyegg presents another interesting visitor statistics service. The company takes a different approach in measuring visitors’ behavior on a website. Crazyegg allows testing different versions of a page to see which one works better. Customers can try different ads to see which ad placement gives the best results. Crazyegg also allows to find out which design layout encourages visitors to click more and visit more pages on the site and what content leads to better sales results. Free service is available for four pages of the site and for limited number of monthly visits. Professional service package is a bit expensive ($99 a month). But the website gives users not only access to raw clicks but also something unique - heatmap. The heatmap illustrates spots on the page where visitors clicked. Installation procedure is straight-forward and requires of inserting several lines of code into one page at a website. In addition to that Crazyegg reports many other useful details.
I’m impressed with this statistics service and plan to start using the free version of Crazyegg service soon.
